News

Hello! So long no see, uh? ^^;

This week the site was down, but now thanks to the miraculous hands of Gis and Crew it is back! <3

I apologise for the general lack of news around here. I’ve been giving small updates in my dA page this past year, mostly when people ask me about the kittens, but now that is going to change. Pinky promise!

So, what’s new?

The kittens are no longer 44. We managed to get loving and caring families for half of them, in the past years, so they are now 22 kittens, despite the site’s name. :)

I’ve been keeping in touch with those families, asking about the kittens and, sometimes, I pay them a visit. They are huge, now! It feels like yesterday that they were these tiny creatures that could fit in one hand… Gosh, time does fly!

More news soon!

Meanwhile, here’s a couple of sweet Gifs Abu-Hany did with 2 photos of the kittens:

<3 Thank you, everyone!

P.S.: Who wants a kitten?

You need to:

Be in Portugal; don’t have dogs; don’t be allergic; be near Espinho or have a way to go there and pick up a kitten; have conditions to have a cat or two in your house; and have time to spend with and care for them and, of course, be a responsible cat lover!

If you are this person, mail us at: eloisa@44kittens.com and tell us why you want a kitten, and what kind of kitten would be better for your conditions; we have kittens that are more spoiled than others and require lots of attention while others are more of the independent type; ones love to run around the yard while others love to be sleeping in the couch… tell me how you are and how it is at your place and I’ll try to find a kitten that fits you and your personality better!

What’s up!!?

Hi!

I thought I’d give you some news from the past months:

We have been feeding the kittens, nurturing and giving good care – as always – and also getting them to the vet when needed (we spent 150euros in the vet and in medicine for the kittens this winter, just for you to have an idea of how much we can spend at a time)! And we have to thank you all for helping doing it!

Gisele made us a nifty design for adds for the kittens and in the last 2 months we have been able to give 14 kittens to good homes. We are now at the count of 30 kittens. *w00t*

And we have money to neuter 8 - all thanks to your help! <3

Yes, we know we still have a long way to come to neuter them all, but now that they are 30 and not 44 and we have your help it has been easier to cope with all the bills. We are also trying to give as many kittens as possible (to good homes and caring people): less cats, less bills and less money we have to raise to neuter them all since we only can neuter 8 at the moment and we need money to neuter more 22 besides those 8… *sigh*

Giving this, I think it is pretty obvious that lately we have been focusing in finding homes for them, which takes a lot of time and effort… but we won’t give up!

So, who wants a kitten?

This way everyone gets happeh!

Thank you! <3

44kittens: 23 of them having a meal

I was asked by a person in deviantART to post a pic of all the 44 together. That is impossible, since the maximum we can get together for a pic is 23 and when they eat.

And now here’s why: They go along in 3 separate groups. I was told people in the cat industry call it clans. And just as the clans of RPG games don’t go very well with each other these don’t either.. especially when eating.

We even have different schedules for those 3 clans, and different places, too. Luckily for everyone we have plenty of space so that’s not a issue…unless for taking a pic with them all together! ^^;

I’ll try to make a video and chase them all with one recording when the sun comes back. Right now we are entering Winter and they go to their own home, an attachment near ours… which makes it hard to take pics of them there because they have plenty of hideouts there – so there I can only catch 1 or 2 in the same frame…  I guess with video it’d be hard too, in Winter – less than with pics, but still hard to get the 44 all together in one “video-shot”… so I hope you don’t mind I do 2 or 3 shots this Winter and then glue them together in editing the video. Because that’s what I envision myself doing while we don’t have spring back!

… as soon as we get the opportunity we will do it! :#1:

So, this is the biggest clan. I’m sorry for the crappy pic, but my camera is having a bad mood crisis and all I have is my brother’s cam, which isn’t that good… :|

Anyway, here are 23. You can imagine the madness when it’s meal time! ^^

Thank you, once again, for all the support! <3

44kittens: Lolita and her offspring

Here is a pic made by my mom with Lolita and her 5 kittens when they had only 2 days of life. From right to left: Calico, Açores, Moretta (the black one, in case you didn’t notice him at first – I didn’t too! xD), Xanax and Otto.

Nowadays they are big kittens. As soon as I have photos of them I’ll publish them here. But meanwhile I also have photos of when they had some weeks in which they are uber cute!

Pic by me! *proud face*

In this one we see Calico and one of the “honey” ones, I can’t tell which one, but I’ll ask my brother later, but it’s either Otto, Xanax or Açores. xD My brother spends more time at home, so he can recognize them all from a distance, just by the way they have their tails, walk, etc… I guess I would too, if I wasn’t away at uni most of my time. It’s my mom who spends more than half of her day with them, and my brother the same, only he plays with them, while my mother feeds, cleans, etc… My brother is a kid, so he has that excuse from my mom. When I’m there I help her. I tell you, I don’t know how she didn’t gone crazy so far! I know I would! ^^;

Ok, too much rambling… Here’s one more pic by me:

It’s Moretta! : )

44kittens: Rufia, Bluekauskas & Mulatinha

Playing in our backyard. :> From right (bottom) to left: Rufia, Bluekauskas and Mulatinha – all girls.

This is to show you only some of our black kittens. I don’t know why, but we have many of them. I personally like them when they have what we call the “white-tie” or some white spots in their tails and paws! :> So sweet!

44kittens: Peluche/Gorda

Meet Peluche/Gorda. Yes, she has two names. Originally we thought she was a he, so we called her Gordo and Peluche. She has two names because my mother calls her Peluche because she is fluffy and peluche means plushie in portuguese. My brother used to call him Gordo, which is portuguese for fat. I call her peluche. :)

Peluche is one of the cats that was born in the 44kittens home, so she’s prolly from Quasar’s family. I can see a resemblance, but only in fur, which is normal, since she never had to suffer what Quasar did before we found him.

Anyway, she is up for adoption. If you are in Portugal and think you can handle a kitty let me know! :] She is very sweet and responds by the name. Also very playfull. Here she is playing with a cat toy lenawargo sent us. She loved it! <3 Thank you, lena!

Picture make: My mom. :)

44kittens: Betinha

Betinha was the second cat we rescued from the street (and the 7th cat). We found her wandering near a dumpster (yes, again!) with her eyes all shut with a icky goey yellow thing in her eyes. We took her to the vet who cleaned her and cured her for free because we told the vet the story. Back then the vet lady was a real precious one. Nowadays vets don’t do things for free for found cats anymore… :|

44Kittens: Quasar

Quasar was found by my cousin about 10 years ago. He was already an adult cat and he was the only one we could afford to neuter/spay back then. He died some years ago, of old age. He had a happy life with us. He was the first of the 44 kittens and he marked the beggining of our pet rescuing mode.

Our first rescued cat

This is his picture, taken in my room, where he used to sleep after he got to trust us and be a house pet instead of a feral cat. :)

btw, sorry for the lousy quality. I messed up with it too much in Photoshop back then and lost the original file… ^^; sorry!

Coming Soon: More pictures and news! For now all I can say as sort of a teaser is that soon we’ll be 42 instead 44 kittens! Yes, we found a home for 2 kittens! Wanna know who and when and how ? Subscribe to our RSS feed and don’t miss a bit! :D

Meow!* Hello!* Olá!

The Cat’s Heaven

Our home is some sort of pet rescuing home, only not official – meaning: we don’t get any support! We do it from our own pockets.

And it truly is their heaven. I’ll record the facilities, so you see what I mean!

We have lots of space for them, because we live in the country, we have a house attachment that is HUGE and is currently used only to shelter the cats; we feed them, clean the place everyday, cure them when they are ill, give them love and cuddles and – especially my mom – are totally dedicated to them.
